Lorca offers to you countless possibilities to enjoy a varying rural tourism and of great quality, due to the contrasts which constitute its wide territory of 1.675 km2:

  • High Territorios of Lorca or‘Tierras Altas de Lorca’. It comprises all the deputations or municipalities situated in the north of Lorca. It is a rural and pure space with small villages and farmhouses with calm and peaceful air, old traditions and an unique architectural and gastronomic inheritance. It is a cattled farming and agricultural area.
  • The Orchard of Lorca or ‘Valle del Guadalentín.. At the foot of the town we find ‘the orchard of Lorca’, on the smoothness of Guadalentín river which take part of an orchard of vegetables, greeneries and fruit tress.

  • The seashore of Calnegre. Our eight kilometres of fragmented litoral are exceptional in the Mediterranean area. Its deliveration from the urban development have converted the beaches and coves of Lorca into a virgin and ideal place. We can find there a municipal tourist youth hostel.

The municipal territory enlarges from the north to the south along 100 kilometres and offers an amazing and varied landscape of peaks of the mountainous systems from the interior to the sea; of barren and rustic High Earth, where cereals and grapevine between very small rural communities are cultivated, to the warm and refreshing coves and beaches of Calnegre, happening through the valley of the Guadalentín and its fertile orchard of fruit trees and vegetables; without forgetting natural places great biological and landscaping wealth like the mountain ranges of Gigante-Culebrina, Pedro Ponce, Pericay, the Almenara, Carrascoy, Torrecilla and Tercia, with a great variety of fauna and flora, as well as the surroundings of marshes of Puentes and Valdeinfierno and the rivers Vélez and Luchena with its respective humedales.

In this rural setting there are more than 200 rural areas, villages, farmhouses and places, showing such of them a particular way of life, far away the urban sprawls and inmersed in Nature.

The artistic inheritance preserved in Lorca deputations and their customs and manners will make you be surprised. The great number of archaeological sites show us that these lands were inhabited from some distant past, and so we find ‘el Cerro de las Viñas’, ‘Almendricos’, ‘La Salud’, ‘Cerro Negro’, ‘El Villar’ or ‘Torrecilla’. It is important to mention the remains of Culture of Argar. A wide variety of architectural style determines the churches and rural hermitages sparsed through the territory. In Coy, Santa Teresa, La Hoya, El Pradico, El Consejero, Villarreal, Santa Gertrudis or Los Navarros pilgrimaces or tradicional festival take place together with ancient dances and popular music. In the same way, we find remains of old medieval castles such as Xiquena, Tirieza, Felí, Puentes or Amír which pointed to the christian-nazarian frontier. All these historical remains are the evidence of a life pointed to the search of water.

The gastronomy of these lands makes greater the products that are offered to you and satisfy the most exigent palates. Related to the typical handicrafts, we have to mention the great variety of products such as ‘jarapas’ or bespreads made of wool from Coy, pottery, esparto, furnitures or sweets which will go with you to your town.

In Lorca there is a network youth hostels of great quality which will take care of you during your stay. The present capacity is around 500 pax among touristic municipal youth hostels, apartments, camp sites and rural houses. There are also different enterprises dedicated to adventure sports, spare and leisure time, which will allow you to discover the Nature in an active way.
