The Easter in Lorca
is the most important celebration of this
municipality and was declared Celebration
of National Tourist Interest
in 2007. The Biblical processions and
parades are religious, artistic, cultural
and social manifestation that congregate
not only to the citizens of Lorca but
also thousands of visitors. From Friday
of Sorrow to the Easter Sunday, Lorca
commemorates the Passion, the Death and
the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
It deals with a unique
spectacle that cannot be contemplated
in a passive way, but that induces to
a symbiosis between actors and spectators.
It is an explosion of colour,
beauty and intensity of the embroideries
in silk and gold of the mantles, dressings,
standards and flags.
The music of the marches
and the hymns of the different brotherhoods,
the determination of the horses and the
grandiosity of its thrones and floats;
the shouts and the ‘vivas’
;the rain of flowers to the passage of
the Virgins... It is an explosion of passion
and fervour to the Virgins of the Dolores
and the Bitterness or ‘Amargura’.
The different brotherhoods organize these
Biblical processions and parades. The
White Step and the Blue Step,
the ‘Paso Blanco and Paso Azul’,
are two brotherhoods in permanent rivalry
that dye with ‘blue and white’
the city of Lorca. They are the ones in
charge to give to life on Maundy Thursday
and Good Friday to the old civilizations,
with multitude of Biblical personages.
Other
Brotherhoods or steps give a religious
content and symbolism to this Easter:
Paso Morado, Paso Encarnado, La
Curia y el Resucitado,
or the Dwelled Step, Incarnated Step,
the Bar and the Revived one respectively.
Holy Week
in Lorca cannot be counted. It
is necessary to see it and to
live it.
